When we think of leather goods, we think of quality. We want deep and rich colors and that smooth buttery feeling. No brand better exemplifies these leather qualities then Hobo handbags, and that is why we are so excited to be selling this incredible line. They make products that truly stands out from the crowd.
It all starts with the leather. Their vintage leather lines all feature a naturally distressed look that is obtained by first selecting only the finest hides then using organic dyes to achieve a distressed look that will get better looking as it ages. Sure, there are easier ways to achieve this look, but that requires harsh chemicals that are bad for the environment. Hobo Bags uses none of those to keep a relatively clean environmental footprint. Hobo also features soft leathers that are smooth to the touch and a line of suede that brings back the vibe of the 70’s.
Lots of bags look great but lack functionality, and this is what makes Hobo stand out. For example, their Sheila tote features a removable beaded strap that has the look and durability of a guitar strap so it can be worn as a shoulder bag or a crossbody. Inside the bag, there are both zippered and slip pockets for all your accessories. It even features a pocket that is specially designed to carry a small laptop or a tablet.
Hobo bags are also great for nights on the town with crossbodies and clutches that are ready for your dressiest occasions. One of their best sellers is the Lauren Clutch Wallet. This clutch is small and sleek and comes in dozens of beautiful colors, prints, and patterns. It also features a magnetic closure that will prevent your items from falling out. Don’t worry about carrying your phone either- it can even handle the IPhone 8 plus!
Don’t forget to check out their wallets and keychains! They are the perfect accessory to your handbag and also make great gifts. New to the line? Our Northbrook, IL store has select items in stock so you can see the quality firsthand. No matter what Hobo item you select, you are sure to receive a high-quality item and lots of compliments from friends, family, and even strangers.
Did you know that over 3.5 million American’s take the train to work every day? For these people, this often means lots of walking in all types of conditions and having to carry all sorts of items with you, such as laptops, tablets, files, lunch, even a change of shoes and clothes. Trying to pack all of this into a conventional briefcase is daunting, plus the idea of carrying all of this weight on your shoulder makes my back wince. For people who travel to work like this every day, a rolling briefcase is a lifesaver. Here are a few of our favorites.
If you are a daily commuter who has to travel in all sorts of conditions, then durability should be your primary concern. Our favorite wheeled briefcase is Briggs & Riley’s medium expandable brief. Every Briggs & Riley item comes with the Simple as That® guarantee which covers all the functional aspects of the case. The wheels can even be changed with a free self-repair kit. Other features include a padded, removable laptop case, RFID pockets, and an expansion that can be used for extra files or a change of clothes. This is truly a road warrior’s best friend.
For the woman who is looking for a wheeled brief that is stylish and still durable, we recommend Cabrelli’s line of rolling cases. Every case is constructed of durable faux leather or PVC and rollerblade wheels and includes separate compartments for laptops and tablets. In addition, all Cabrelli cases can be attached to a larger piece of luggage if you wish to use this bag as your carry-on. Styles change so check our website frequently for the new colors.
People who work in the legal profession and salespeople who carry samples need more room for larger items. The good news is that these cases don’t need to be basic and boring. The Mosiac 18’’ wheeled leather catalog case features durable black matte leather, a deluxe telescoping handle, and a built-in padded tablet pocket. For security, it even has two included combination locks. Even more good news: it is now 30% off, so it’s a great value.
Do you have a friend or family member who is struggling with their commute? Then a wheeled briefcase makes a perfect gift for the holidays or a birthday. Trust us, their back will thank you.

With all the damage the recent hurricanes have inflicted on Caribbean islands, many people who would have normally gone to a resort on an island are for the first time considering going on a cruise ship instead. This is a great option if your favorite island isn’t quite ready for tourists, but you still want to enjoy resort type amenities and the great weather the Caribbean offers. However, you will have to approach how you pack slightly differently. Below is a guide to help you out.
What luggage you take with you depends on your needs; however, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind.
- You will always want to take at least one carry-on suitcase. This is a bag you will keep with you at all times. All your valuables and any items you will need on your first day of the cruise should go in this bag. You will do a lot of walking so make sure your bag wheels well before your trip. If you have an older carry-on this might be a good time to upgrade.
- Most of the time your suitcases will have to fit underneath your bed. This will require some planning if you are taking several cases. One option is to get a luggage set that can be nested. Another option is a rolling duffel that can be folded down for storage. This might be a good option for families.
- If you are bringing lots of formal outfits you might want to consider a rolling garment bag. Your nicer garments will arrive ready to wear and the bag can be hung in a closet without taking your clothing out.
The following travel accessories are recommended for any cruise travel:
–Adaptors and/or convertors (see this previous blog, check with the cruise operator if you need one)
-A small backpack or tote for day trips
–Toiletry bags and pill planners
–Waterproof phone pouch
–Luggage tags (the brighter the better) and locks
I always suggest reading the cruise operator’s website and follow their advice closely. Also, make sure to give yourself time to get to your boat (consider flying in the night before.) Travel insurance is recommended for everyone. Lastly, I highly suggest taking your passport with you and make sure it is not near expiration. Most of all relax and enjoy yourself.
One fun thing that can be done to personalize many leather items is to have it monogrammed. This is an old process that actually dates back to ancient Greece. For a while, it was considered passé but what was once old is always new again- so they say. Many people do not understand the process and need some guidance. This is where we step in. Follow along for your complete guide to monogramming.
Monogramming leather is done by a stamping machine. This is a process that has not changed in over 75 years and it is all done by hand. The first part is finding the necessary letters or symbols intended for use. There are several choices on lettering sizes. Don’t worry, the person doing the monogramming will work with you to choose the right letter size. Once the machine is heated up the next step is determining where to stamp the item. This part can be tricky and it takes monogrammer years to know exactly where the best place is aesthetically to make the burn.
Once the letters are picked the next choice is whether to have the letter burned or to have a foil. A foil, usually silver or gold, helps the letters stand out on the item. However, burned-in has become more popular because it has a classic look that never goes out of style. This is very much a personal choice.
Once the letters are in place and the spot marked on the bag the next step is to secure the item so it doesn’t move. It is important for the monogrammer to make sure that the item is centered and secured so the item doesn’t move. If the item is moved or isn’t centered there is no way to erase this so there is no room for error. Once this is done it is time for the stamping. The letters are pushed in by force for several seconds so the burning can take place. Once this is over the item is all ready to go.
Monogramming is also great for gifting, If you aren’t 100% sure about the item, a certificate for monogramming is a safe bet. This way, you know they’ll love the item before they monogram is done.
Once you have picked out your luggage the next step is to figure out what travel accessories you need for travel today. In case you need some help, I’m going to highlight a few items that are must-haves for all travelers.
One item each piece of luggage should have is a luggage tag or handle wrap. They serve multiple purposes; they both help you find your bag and if your bag is lost it will have all your information. Even if your bag has a place to write your information a big, bright tag or wrap will help separate your bag from the crowd. This is also a great place to add a piece of personality and friar to a not so exciting suitcase.
Most airlines nowadays limit checked bags to 50 Ibs. If you exceed this the extra fees can be HUGE. The best way to avoid this is with a luggage scale. Scales come in two different varieties, spring-loaded and digital. The advantage of the spring-loaded ones is the reliability. It never needs a battery. The digital ones though are smaller and easier to read. Pro tip: If you are planning to buy items on your trip you might want to pack your scale.
One item you never want to leave home without is your medication. It is no fun having to take time away from your trip trying to track down new prescriptions or medicines. You can carry all your pill bottles with you but for one week or less trips it will be easier to use a pill planner. This way you can make sure you have everything you need to. Another pro tip: no matter what you should always keep your medication on you and not in a checked bag.
Worried about leaving your bag unattended? You will need a luggage lock. What makes these locks different from other locks is that with a luggage lock the TSA can still access your bag. If your lock is not a TSA lock they will cut it off and maybe even damage your zippers. A good way to know if your lock is TSA approved is to look for “TSA” followed by a number somewhere by the keyhole. If your lock doesn’t have that don’t use that lock.
These items are must-haves for any traveler and having them can make the difference between a fun trip and a nightmare. Don’t forget to stay tuned for more tips on travel accessories.
